Life-Span Design of Residential Environments for an Aging Population

Acknowledgements

This publication is the culmination of the tireless and cooperative efforts of many talented people. Robert Harootyan, director of the Forecasting and Environmental Scanning Department (formerly the New Roles in Society Program) of AARP, and Elliot Stern, executive director of the Stein Gerontological Institute conceived of the conference and these proceedings and provided the direction necessary to bring both to fruition.

Working for the Forecasting and Environmental Scanning Department, Mary Ann Hanson coordinated the manuscript preparation, while Sandra Williams, Wendy Carter, and Lauri Domotor tirelessly and accurately performed all the word processing. Working for Stein Gerontological Institute, Cherrie Clark coordinated the writing of plenary sessions and the gathering of information for the publication. Sara Czaja, Cherrie Clark, Litha Berger, Jose Guerrier, and Sankaran Nair assumed the challenging task of writing summaries of the plenary sessions, while Romona Milliner quickly performed the word processing, and Pamela Byers edited. Barbara Kline, Janyce McGlone, and Judith Williams coordinated the conference.

A special thank you goes to Barbara Coleman for editing the volume and preparing it for publication. We also thank Jane Gold for her editorial work on the individual papers. Finally, special thanks go to each of the paper authors and to all participants in this invitation-only conference. Their expertise, input, and cooperation helped make the conference a success. We at the Forecasting and Environmental Scanning Department and the Stein Gerontological Institute, however, take responsibility for whatever oversights may have been made in synthesizing and conveying the great amount of information developed from the conference.
