About the Adaptive Environments Center Adaptive Environments is a private, nonprofit organization, founded in 1978 and dedicated to eliminating the barriers that confront people with disabilities and older people. Our goal is to create environments and communities that are accessible to all people. The Consumer's Guide to Home Adaptation was published and created by the Adaptive Environments Center, 374 Congress Street, Suite 301, Boston, MA 02210. Originally developed through the Massachusetts Housing Partnership Challenge Grant Program, June 1989. Fifth Printing, January 1996.
